Solitary palm to 35 m tall; trunk ventricose, to 35 cm diam. Leaves 9–12, to 2.5 m long, arching, with apex recurved; leaf sheath elongate, yellow-green with white to grey tomentum. Pinnae 50–60 each side of rachis, erect, regularly arranged, linear, to 90 cm long, acute, coriaceous, grey-green on both surfaces. Inflorescence to 50 cm long, branched to 2 orders; rachillae at first erect but pendulous with fruit. Flowers white to cream-yellow, opposite, lemon-scented, protandrous. Staminate flower to 10 mm long; pistillode lacking. Pistillate flower conical, to 5 mm high. Fruit ellipsoid to cylindric, to 15 mm long, to 8 mm diam., brick red; epicarp smooth; mesocarp thin, dry, densely fibrous; fibres thin; endocarp thin. Seed elongate, to 14 mm long.
