Characteristics

Slender or bushy shrub or weak shrublet, up to 2 m. tall, with ± strict branches.. Stems terete, ± woody, with the cortex soon flaking off.. Leaves sessile (or sometimes very shortly petiolate towards the base of the shoot), oblong to elliptic-oblong or rarely obovate, 10–30 × (5–)7–20(–22) mm., rounded to retuse at the apex, cordate-amplexicaul to rounded at the base, with ± undulate margin, well-developed reticulate venation, numerous conspicuous translucent glandular dots and dark marginal glandular dots.. Flowers numerous, in rather dense corymbose cymes.. Bracts with dark marginal dots.. Sepals subequal, lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, acute, with sessile marginal dark glands and longitudinal translucent glandular streaks or lines.. Petals 10–12 mm. long, primrose-yellow tinged and sometimes veined red, with marginal and subapical black dots.. Stamens ± 80, 3-fasciculate or ± irregular.. Styles 3, slightly longer than the ovary.. Capsule 3-valved.
