Characteristics

Herb up to 45 cm high. Stems 1-many, from a persistent underground rootstock, erect, much-branched, round and smooth, glabrous. Leaves sessile or rarely shortly petiolate, elliptic, broadly elliptic or obovate, 0.9-1.9 cm long, 0.5-1.2 cm wide, apex obtuse to rounded, 7-nerved, tertiary venation fairly conspicuous, punctate with submarginal dark dots. Flowers terminal with flowering branches from uppermost pair of nodes. Sepals unequal, elliptic, obovate or spathulate, 4.5-8 mm long, 4 mm wide, apex rounded, slightly apiculate, distinctly veined, densely yellow-punctate with few dark submarginal gland dots. Petals elliptic, oblong or spathulate, 6.5-7 mm long, 1.7-2.5 mm wide, yellow, with 0-few yellow gland dots and occasional dark dots near apex. Stamens indefinite, 3-5 mm long; anthers 0.3 mm long, each with a dark gland at end of connective. Ovary ovoid, 2.5-3 mm long, 2 mm wide; styles usually 5, free, 2-2.5 mm long; stigmas capitate. Capsule ovoid, 5-6 mm long, 3 mm wide.
