Female inflorescences with 2-10 spikelets; spathes persistent, longer than spikelets. Flowers with chartaceous or membranous tepals. Ovary unilocular; styles 2, plumose, fused at base to form a pillar. Flowering time Feb.-May. Fruit an indehiscent nut; nut cap with several rows of ridges.
