Characteristics

Perennial herb, 50-150 mm high; slender, wiry, growing singly. Rhizome oblong or globose, 10-20 mm in diameter. Leaves 4-7, erect, rigid, subterete, 80-200 x 2-3 mm; ribbed, veins close to each other, uniformly thickened and raised on upper surface; sparsely hairy along margins and midrib, pilose; hairs biramous, few stellate, weak, white. Flowers: inflorescence 1-5 per plant, 2(-4)-flowered, racemose, appearing with leaves; pedicels short, 5-15 x 1 mm; filaments filiform; perianth segments 4.5-9.0 x 1.8-4.0 mm, ovate-elliptic, yellow; Sep.-Feb. Fruit a capsule, 4-5 x 2-3 mm, opening by a circular slit, splitting longitudinally into 3 lobes.
