Perennial geophyte, similar to H. rigidula but plants slender. Leaves filiform, 150-500 x 2-4 mm, subterete, strongly ribbed, veins close to each other, uniformly thickened and raised on upper surface, straw-coloured, blade hairless, margins and midrib below outlined in white by a thick band of squat hairs. Slender, cormous geophyte, 25-35 cm, with a fibrous neck. Leaves 4-6(-8), suberect, clasping at base into a short, false stem, linear, ribbed above, as long as or longer than the inflorescence, midrib and margin fringed with thick, short, white hairs. Flowers 4 or 5(-7), yellow.
