Characteristics

Perennial herb, 100-140 mm high; stout, scabrous, growing singly or in tufts. Rhizome oblong to subglobose, 30-50 mm x 15-35 mm. Leaves 4-6 per plant, blade flat, oblong-lanceolate, (30-)80-150 x 12-45(-60) mm, elongating to 250-300 mm in post-flowering, sometimes forming false petioles of 40-200 mm long; hairs stellate, patent, yellow or brown. Flowers: inflorescence 2-6 per plant, 2(4)-flowered, corymbose, appearing before or with emergence of leaves, hispid; pedicels short, 4-15 x 1 mm; perianth segments 10-15 x 5-8 mm, ovate-elliptic, yellow; Aug.-Nov. Fruit a capsule, 5-8 x 4-6 mm, opening by a circular slit.
