Leaf more than 8 cm wide, margins spiny-dentate, scabridulous-puberulous above, pale pubescent beneath.. Capitula 5–6-flowered; involucre 5–7-seriate, 9–10 mm long, cylindrical with outer phyllaries spreading, inner erect; phyllaries ovate and ending in a stiff spine, 5–6 mm long, with some whitish tomentum especially at base of spine on inside.. Corolla with glabrous lobes.. Achenes ovoid, 3–3.5 mm long, 8-ribbed, sparsely pubescent; outer pappus of ± 12 ovate to lanceolate scales 0.4–0.9 mm long, inner of ± 12 linear-lanceolate scales 4.5–5 mm long.. Pollen echinate..
