Shrubs evergreen, 2-4 m tall. Branchlets black or black-brown when dry, terete, longitudinally angular and sulcate, glabrous; leaf scars slightly raised, deltoid, lenticels absent; terminal buds ovoid-conical, glabrous. Petiole 5-9 mm, abaxially transversely rugose, adaxially slightly flattened to broadly sulcate, glabrous; leaf blade green, olive or brown when dry, obovate-oblong or obovate-lanceolate, rarely elliptic, 4.5-7.5(-8) × 1.4-2.7(-3) cm, thinly leathery or papery, both surfaces glabrous, midvein impressed adaxially, lateral veins 7-9 pairs, raised abaxially, flattened and evident adaxially, forked and anastomosing near margin, reticulate veins evident abaxially, base broadly cuneate, margin sparsely serrulate, apex abruptly acuminate or acuminate. Flowers not known. Infructescences: 1-fruited cymes, fasciculate, axillary on current year’s branchlets; fruiting pedicels 2-3(-5) mm, glabrous or puberulent; bracteoles basal, ovate-deltoid, ciliate. Fruit (immature) globose, ca. 4 mm in diam.; persistent calyx 4-lobed, lobes ovate, ciliate; persistent stigma thickly discoid or capitate, slightly 4-lobed; pyrenes 4, ovoid, ca. 2 mm, ca. 1.5 mm in diam., abaxially smooth, nearly not or inconspicuously striate and sulcate, endocarp leathery.
