Shrubs or small trees, evergreen, to 12 m tall. Branchlets gray, terete, densely pubescent, longitudinally striate and sulcate when young, leaf scars semicircular, lenticels absent; terminal buds densely pubescent. Stipules persistent, minute, apically acute; petiole 5-7 mm, densely pubescent; leaf blade abaxially greenish, adaxially deep green, slightly shiny, oblong or oblong-elliptic, 5-12 × 2-3.2 cm, leathery, midvein raised and glabrous abaxially, impressed and pubescent adaxially, lateral veins 6-8 pairs, evident on both surfaces, reticulate veins obscure on both surfaces, base obtuse, margin entire or obscurely crenulate-serrate, apex acuminate, acumen 8-14 mm. Flowers not known. Infructescences: cymes 1-fruited, fasciculate, axillary on second year’s branchlets; basal bracts deltoid, thickly leathery, pubescent, ciliate, apex acute; basal appendage stipulelike; fruiting pedicels ca. 2 mm; bracteoles 2, basal. Fruit red, globose, ca. 6 mm in diam.; persistent calyx orbicular, ca. 2 mm in diam., lobes orbicular, ciliate; persistent stigma thickly discoid, convex, style very short; pyrenes 4, oblong, 4-4.5 mm, 2-2.5 mm in diam., abaxially longitudinally 1-sulcate, palmately striate and sulcate, laterally rugose and pitted, endocarp stony.
