Characteristics

Plants annual, ca. 20 cm tall, glabrous. Stem erect, simple. Leaves alternate in lower and middle parts of stem, petiolate but uppermost leaves sessile; petiole 1-2 cm; leaf blade lanceolate, 4-6 × 1.5-2 cm, rigidly papery, lateral veins 6-8 pairs, base gradually attenuate into petiole, margin spinescent-serrate, apex long acuminate. Inflorescences 1-flowered; peduncles shorter than leaves, 2.5-3 cm. Pedicels bracteate at middle; bracts ?persistent, ovate-lanceolate, long acuminate. Flowers red-yellow, small, to 1.1 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, ovate, apex acuminate, aristate, arista ca. as long as sepals, rigid, ca. 5 mm, 3-veined. Lower sepal navicular, ca. 1 cm deep, abruptly contracted into an incurved spur ca. 1.5 cm, tip acute, erect. Upper petal orbicular, ca. 8 mm in diam., base cordate, apex retuse, rostellate, abaxial midvein cristate; lateral united petals not clawed, ca. 1.2 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes orbicular; distal lobes dolabriform, longer, apex obtuse; auricle inflexed. Filaments linear; anthers ovoid, apex acuminate. Ovary erect, fusiform. Capsule not seen. Fl. and fr. unknown.
