Characteristics

Plants annual, 30-45 cm tall, ± pilose. Stem erect, simple or branched in upper part. Leaves alternate; petiole 5-5.5 cm, stout, sparsely hirsute; leaf blade pale green abaxially, dark green adaxially, elliptic or elliptic-ovate, 5-12 × 2.5-5 cm, membranous, abaxially sparsely pubescent, adaxially sparsely hirsute, lateral veins 4-6(-14) pairs, base cuneate, margin coarsely serrate, teeth mucronulate, apex acute or acuminate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, usually (1 or)3-flowered; peduncles conspicuously shorter than leaves, 0.5-1.5 cm, slender. Pedicels 0.5-1 cm, bracteate at middle; bracts persistent, linear, 2-4 mm, hirsute. Flowers yellowish, ca. 4 cm deep. Lateral sepals 4; outer 2: obliquely ovate, 7-10 × ca. 4 mm, 3-5-veined, villous, apex mucronulate; inner 2: linear, ca. as long as outer ones. Lower sepal saccate, ca. 2 cm deep; mouth oblique, tip acuminate, narrowed into an incurved, 2-fid spur, barbate. Upper petal orbicular, ca. 2 cm in diam., abaxially pubescent; lateral united petals clawed, 2-2.5 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes orbicular; distal lobes dolabriform, large, apex acute; auricle large. Filaments short, winged; anthers acute. Ovary fusiform. Capsule (immature) linear, ca. 1 cm, apex rostellate. Fl. Aug.
