Characteristics

Plants annual, 30-60 cm tall. Stem erect, simple or branched from base. Leaves alternate, often crowded in upper part of stem; leaf blade oblong or oblong-lanceolate, 7-12 × 3-4 cm, with 2 globose basal glands, lateral veins 7-9 pairs, base cuneate, margin crenate, teeth mucronulate, apex acuminate or caudate-acuminate. Inflorescences axillary, 1-or 2-flowered. Pedicels bracteate at middle; bract 1, caducous, linear, 3-4 mm. Flowers purple. Lateral sepals 2, ovate, 3-4 mm wide, margin ciliate, sometimes remotely denticulate, carinate, apex cuspidate. Lower sepal broadly funnelform, not saccate, to 3.5 cm deep, gradually narrowed into an incurved slender spur. Upper petal subreniform, abaxial midvein narrowly thickened; lateral united petals 2-lobed; basal lobes oblong; distal lobes dolabriform, large. Anthers broadly ovoid, apically acute. Capsule linear. Fl. and fr. May-Nov.
