Characteristics

Plants annual, 30-60 cm tall. Stem robust, with many adventitious roots, sparsely slender branched, naked in lower part, sulcate when dry, glabrous, with few glands in upper part. Leaves alternate; petiole 1-2 cm, with 1 pair of globose glands; leaf blade greenish abaxially, dark green adaxially, ovate-lanceolate or lanceolate, 7-12 × 2-3.5 cm, thinly papery, both surfaces glabrous, setose between teeth, lateral veins 6-8 pairs, inconspicuous, base broadly cuneate, margin crenate-serrate, apex acuminate. Inflorescences erect, in upper leaf axils, racemose, 10-12-flowered; peduncles longer than petioles, 10-22 cm, slender. Pedicels 1-1.5 cm, elongate at fruiting, bracteate at base; bracts persistent, ovate, 3-5 mm, apex long glandular aristate or shortly acuminate. Flowers yellowish, purple tinged at apex, 2-2.5 cm. Lateral sepals 2, obliquely ovate, 4-5 mm, apex ca. 2 mm, glandular-aristate or shortly acuminate, many veined, abaxial midvein not thickened. Lower sepal saccate, ca. 2 cm deep, gradually narrowed into an incurved spur ca. 1 cm; mouth vertical, 1.6-1.7 cm wide, tip cuspidate. Upper petal suborbicular, ca. 1 cm in diam., apex acute, conspicuously cuspidate, abaxial midvein thickened; lateral united petals clawed, ca. 3 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes suborbicular; distal lobes ca. 2 × as large as basal lobes, gradually narrowed. Filaments broadly linear; anthers ovoid, apex acute. Ovary linear. Capsules linear, 2-2.2 cm. Seeds few, shortly fusiform, ca. 2 mm. Fl. Jul-Aug, fr. Sep.
