Characteristics

Plants annual, 60-70 cm tall, with few supporting roots. Stem erect, robust, branched or simple, lower part glabrous, upper part and nodes yellow-brown glandular hairy. Leaves alternate; petiole 1-2 cm, slender, with 1 pair of globose basal glands; leaf blade greenish abaxially, dark green adaxially, ovate-oblong or ovate-lanceolate, 10-13 × 3.5-4.5 cm, submembranous, glabrous, basally with few pairs of stipitate glands or glandular hairs, marginal teeth apically setose, lateral veins 3-5 pairs, curved, base cuneate, attenuate into petiole, margin crenate-serrate, apex acuminate or caudate-acuminate. Inflorescences terminal and in upper leaf axils, racemose, 6-10-flowered; peduncles shorter than or overtopping leaves, 6-8(-10) cm. Pedicels 1-1.5 cm, slender, bracteate at base; bracts persistent, ovate-lanceolate, 3-4 mm, membranous, apically glandular, long acuminate. Flowers yellow, red spotted, 3-3.5 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, obliquely ovate or subtetragonous, 3-4 × 2-3 mm, thick, many veined, apex long glandular. Lower sepal cup-shaped or funnelform, 1.5-1.8 cm deep, narrowed into an incurved spur ca. as long as or longer than limb; mouth vertical, obtuse. Upper petal saccate, orbicular, ca. 1 cm in diam., apex obtuse, abaxial midvein slightly thickened; lateral united petals clawed, 2-2.5 cm, narrow, 2-lobed; basal lobes oblong-orbicular; distal lobes rotate, apex obtuse; auricle inflexed, small. Filaments linear; anthers ovoid, apex obtuse. Ovary erect, linear. Capsule clavate, 2-2.7 cm. Seeds many, brown, oblong or obovoid, ca. 3 mm, tuberculate. Fl. Aug-Sep, fr. Oct-Nov.
