Characteristics

Plants annual, 50-80 cm tall, glabrous. Stem erect, robust, long naked in lower part, branched or simple, with few supporting roots. Leaves alternate; petiole winged; leaf blade pale green abaxially, sometimes turning purple when dry, green adaxially, oblong-ovate or oblong-lanceolate, 8-15 × 2.5-4.5 cm, membranous, both surfaces glabrous, setose between teeth, lateral veins 6-8 pairs, curved, base cuneate, attenuate into petiole, margin crenate, apex acuminate or caudate-acuminate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, racemose, 5-7-flowered; peduncles longer than petioles, 8-12 cm. Pedicels 1.5-2.5 cm, slender, bracteate at base; bracts persistent, green, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, 5-7 × 2-3 mm, hyaline margined, apex rounded. Flowers yellow, purple spotted, 2.5-3 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, ovate, 4-5 × ca. 2 mm, apex mucronulate or apiculate. Lower sepal purple-red spotted, navicular, gradually narrowed into an incurved spur; spur long, ca. 1.5 cm, slender; mouth abruptly curved, tip acuminate. Upper petal navicular, shorter than lower sepal, apex rounded, abaxial midvein thickened, cristate; lateral united petals spotted, longer than upper petal, 2-lobed; basal lobes orbicular; distal lobes narrowly linear, apex acuminate. Filaments linear; anthers ovoid, apex obtuse. Ovary fusiform. Capsule ca. 2.5 cm. Fl. Jul-Sep, fr. Oct.
