Characteristics

Plants annual, 40-90 cm tall. Stem erect, branched or simple, glabrous in upper part; branchlets and young leaves gray-brown tomentulose. Leaves alternate; petiole ca. 2.5 cm, slender; leaf blade greenish abaxially, dark green adaxially, ovate or ovate-elliptic, 7-15 × 3-6(-8) cm, thinly papery, abaxially glabrous, adaxially sparsely strigose, lateral veins 7-9 pairs, curved, base broadly cuneate or subrounded, margin coarsely serrate, apex acuminate. Inflorescences in terminal leaf axils, racemose, 3-6-flowered; peduncles shorter than leaves, (5-)8-10 cm. Pedicels 0.5-1 cm, elongate after anthesis, slender, bracteate at base; bracts persistent, broadly ovate, ca. 3 × 1.5-2 mm, fleshy, apex mucronulate. Flowers yellow, 3-3.5 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, orbicular or obovate, 7-10 mm, thick, many veined, apex mucronulate. Lower sepal saccate, ca. 3 cm deep, narrowed into an incurved, involute, hooked spur; mouth oblique, 1-1.5 cm, tip acute. Upper petal orbicular or broadly obovate, 1-1.3 cm, apex retuse, abaxial midvein thickened, broadly triangular cristate; lateral united petals broadly shortly clawed, ca. 3 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes orbicular, large; distal lobes dolabriform, longer, apex rounded-obtuse; auricle large. Filaments linear; anthers acute. Ovary fusiform, apex acute. Capsule clavate, curved, 1.5-2.5 cm. Seeds many, brown, globose. Fl. Aug-Sep, fr. Sep-Oct.
