Characteristics

Plants annual, 30-45 cm tall, slender. Stem erect, upper part and peduncles brown pilose, striate, simple or rarely branched, base often swollen. Leaves alternate, shortly petiolate. Leaves in middle part of stem with petiole ca. 5 mm; leaf blade narrowly oblong, 5-8.5 cm, with 3 or 4 pairs of stipitate glands at basal margin, abaxially brown pilose, lateral veins 7 pairs, base gradually attenuate into petiole, margin serrulate, apex acuminate. Blade of upper leaves linear or linear-lanceolate, 7-11 × 0.5-1.2 cm, margin inconspicuously serrulate, apex long acuminate. Inflorescences axillary, usually (1 or)2-flowered; peduncles often shorter than leaves. Pedicels 1-2 cm, bracteate at base or basally; bracts lanceolate, 3-4 mm, sparsely brown pilose, apex acuminate. Flowers pink, large, to 4 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, ovate or oblong-ovate, 5-6 mm, many veined, apex mucronulate, abaxial midvein pilose. Lower sepal striate, broadly funnelform, 1.5-1.7 cm deep, narrowed into an incurved, 2-fid spur 1-1.2 cm. Upper petal obovate-orbicular or suborbicular, 1.2-1.5 cm in diam., apex emarginate, long rostellate, abaxial midvein thickened, cristate above middle, sparsely pilose; lateral united petals ± clawed, 1.8-2.5 cm; basal lobes orbicular, apex mucronulate; distal lobes dolabriform, ca. 2 × as long as basal lobes, apex obtuse or rounded; auricle inflexed, rounded. Filaments linear, short; anthers acute. Ovary fusiform. Capsule (immature) linear, ca. 7 mm. Seeds unknown. Fl. Jul-Aug.
