Characteristics

Plants annual, 30-40 cm tall, slender, glabrous. Stem erect, long naked basally, ± branched. Leaves alternate; petiole long, 2-3 cm, slender, without glands; leaf blade ovate, 3-4 × 2-2.5 cm, membranous, lateral veins 6 or 7 pairs, fine, base cuneate, attenuate into petiole, margin serrulate, apex acuminate. Inflorescences 1-flowered; peduncles slender. Pedicels 1-1.5 cm, elongate at fruiting; bracts few, fibrous, 1-3 mm. Flowers pink-purple, large, ca. 2 cm deep. Lateral sepals 4, outer 2: linear-lanceolate, ca. 7 × 2-3 mm, apex long acuminate; inner 2: linear, ca. 4 mm, apex acute. Lower sepal incurved, turgid; mouth horizontal, navicular, abruptly narrowed into an erect, short spur. Upper petal orbicular, ca. 1.2 cm in diam., apex rostellate, abaxial midvein thickened, carinate; lateral united petals broadly clawed, 1.8-2 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes oblong, apex subacute; distal lobes obovate-oblong, ca. 1.5 × as long as basal lobes; auricle inflexed. Filaments linear, short; anthers obtuse. Ovary striate, fusiform. Capsule erect, linear, ca. 2 cm. Seeds few, brown, broadly ovoid or globose, flattened, ca. 2.5 mm, smooth. Fl. Aug-Sep.
