Plants annual, small, 10-30 cm tall, glabrous, with few fibrous roots. Stem erect, simple or rarely shortly branched in lower part, long naked. Leaves alternate, usually crowded at apex of stem, or subverticillate; petiole 5-10 mm; leaf blade gray-green abaxially, dark green adaxially, lanceolate or narrowly oblong-lanceolate, 3-6(-7) × 0.5-1.5 cm, membranous, glabrous, lateral veins 5 or 6 pairs, base cuneate, attenuate into petiole, margin densely crenate, teeth mucronulate, apex acuminate or long acuminate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, 1-flowered; peduncles shorter than leaves, 2-3 cm. Pedicels bracteate at ?middle or ?above; bracts persistent, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, 4-5 × ca. 2 mm, herbaceous, apex acute. Flowers blue-purple, 3.5-4 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, obliquely ovate or ovate-orbicular, 7-8 × 5-6 mm, adpressed puberulent, 5-7-veined, apex acute. Lower sepal broadly funnelform, 2.5-3 cm deep, abruptly narrowed into an involute spur; spur pink striate, 1.5-2 cm, simple; mouth subvertical, 1.8-2 cm wide, tip acute. Upper petal orbicular, 1.3-1.5 cm in diam., apex acute, abaxial midvein thickened, cristate at middle or below; lateral united petals not clawed, 2.3-2.5 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes orbicular-ovate, apex without a filamentous long hair; distal lobes dolabriform, apex without a seta; auricle inflexed, lunar. Filaments linear, 3-4 mm; anthers ovoid, apex obtuse. Ovary erect, fusiform, 3-4 mm. Capsule (immature) linear, ca. 1 cm. Fl. Aug-Sep.
