Characteristics

Plants annual, 40-100 cm tall. Stem erect, branched in upper part, glabrous or sparsely hairy. Leaves alternate, petiolate; leaf blade ovate or ovate-lanceolate, 7-13 × 2-5 cm, lateral veins glabrous or sparsely hairy, base rounded or cordate, margin sharply serrate, apex caudate-acuminate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, 2-4-flowered; peduncles 5-15 mm. Pedicel slender, bracteate at middle; bracts persistent, ovate. Flowers purplish, 2.5-3 cm deep. Lateral sepals 4; outer 2: obliquely ovate, larger, ca. 8 × 4-5 mm, abaxial midvein carinate; inner 2: subulate, very small, 1-1.5 mm. Lower sepal inside of throat purple spotted, saccate, abruptly narrowed into an incurved spur 0.8-1 cm. Upper petal reniform-orbicular, ca. 1.2 × 1 cm, apex mucronulate, abaxial midvein carinate; lateral united petals ± clawed, 1.8-2 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes orbicular; distal lobes oblong-dolabriform, apex rounded-obtuse; auricle inflexed, small. Filaments linear; anthers acute. Capsule linear, ca. 3 cm. Fl. and fr. Aug-Sep.
