Characteristics

Plants ?annual, ca. 40 cm tall. Leaves alternate, somewhat crowded at upper part of stem, petiolate or nearly sessile in upper leaves; petiole 2-3.5 cm; leaf blade broadly elliptic, 8-11 × 4-6 cm, both surfaces nearly glabrous, base cuneate, margin crenate, apex acute. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, ascending, racemose, 2-4-flowered; peduncles ca. 4 cm, glabrous. Pedicels 1.5-2 cm, glabrous, bracteate at base; bracts caducous, narrowly ovate, ca. 5 mm. Flowers yellow, ca. 3 cm, ca. 4 cm deep. Lateral sepals 4; outer 2: ovate, apex acute, 8-9 mm; inner 2: narrowly ovate, ca. 4 mm, membranous. Lower sepal yellow, navicular, narrowed into a long straight (rarely slightly curved) spur, ca. 1.2 cm, ca. 3.2 cm deep including spur; mouth tip apiculate. Upper petal ovate, ca. 1.2 × 0.8 cm, apex slightly rostellate, abaxial midvein not carinate; lateral united petals yellow, ca. 2.8 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes narrowly ovate to narrowly elliptic, 1.3-1.4 cm × 3-4 mm, apex rounded; distal lobes falcate, 1.8-2 cm × ca. 3 mm, apex rounded; auricle inflexed, narrow. Anthers obtuse. Ovary glabrous. Capsule ?linear. Fl. Aug. 2n = 18*.
