Characteristics

Plants annual, 30-60 cm tall, glabrous. Stem erect, laxly branched. Leaves alternate; petiole 1.5-4 cm; leaf blade oblong-ovate, 7-13 × 3-6 cm, membranous, often with 1-3 pairs of globose basal glands, lateral veins 5-7 pairs, base cuneate, margin coarsely serrate, teeth mucronulate, apex acuminate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, 1-flowered; peduncles erect, 2-3 cm, stout. Pedicels slender, bracteate above middle; bracts persistent, lanceolate, ca. 2 mm. Flowers pale purple, 2.5-3.5 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, ovate-orbicular, inequilateral, 6-7 mm, apex rounded, mucronulate, abaxial midvein thickened. Lower sepal broadly funnelform, ca. 4.5 cm deep, gradually narrowed into a slightly incurved spur ca. 3.5 cm; mouth vertical, ca. 1.5 cm wide, tip acute. Upper petal broadly ovate, ca. 1 × 1.2 cm, base slightly cordate, apex obtuse, abaxial midvein thickened; lateral united petals clawed, ca. 1.7 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes elliptic; distal lobes oblong; auricle inflexed, lunar. Filaments linear, ca. 4 mm; anthers ovoid, apex acute. Ovary linear, ca. 4 mm. Capsule linear-cylindric, 3-4 cm. Seeds many, brown, elliptic, 4-5 mm, rugose. Fl. and fr. Jul-Oct.
