Characteristics

Plants annual, 10-40 cm tall, slender, glabrous, with few supporting roots and fibrous roots. Stem erect, many branched in lower part; branchlets opposite or subopposite. Leaves alternate, petiolate on lower stem, sessile at middle and upper stem; petiole 1.5-3.5 cm, slender; leaf blade pale green abaxially, green adaxially, broadly ovate, ovate-oblong, rhombic, or suborbicular, 1.5-3 × 1-2 cm, rarely 5-6 × 2-2.5 cm, membranous, lateral veins 5-7 pairs, base broadly cuneate or rounded-auriculate, cordate-amplexicaul, margin shallowly undulate-crenate or nearly entire, apex rounded or obtuse in lower part of stem. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, 1-or 2-flowered; peduncles shorter than leaves, 1.5-2 cm. Pedicels 5-15 mm, linear, bracteate below flowers; bracts ± persistent, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, ca. 2 mm, membranous, apex acuminate. Flowers white, ca. 1 cm or smaller. Lateral sepals 2, broadly ovate, 2-3 mm, 3-5-veined, apex scarcely mucronulate. Lower sepal navicular, (4.5-)6-7 mm; mouth vertical, 5-6 mm wide, with an included spur; spur incurved, 1-1.5 mm. Upper petal orbicular, (3.5-)5-6 mm, cucullate, apex emarginate, mucronulate; lateral united petals not clawed, (7.5-)9-10 mm, 2-lobed; basal lobes obliquely ovate, ca. 3.5 mm, apex obtuse; distal lobes oblong-lanceolate to elliptic, ca. 2 × as long as basal lobe, apex obtuse; auricle absent. Filaments slightly compressed; anthers obtuse. Ovary erect, fusiform, 3-4 mm. Capsule linear, 2.5-4 cm. Seeds many, brown, tuberculate. Fl. Aug, fr. Sep.
