Characteristics

Plants annual, 50-60 cm tall, glabrous. Stem erect, robust; branches and branchlets slender. Leaves alternate; petiole 1-4 cm; leaf blade pale green abaxially, green adaxially, ovate or elliptic, 4-6 × 2-3 cm, membranous, without or with few basal glands, glabrous, shiny, lateral veins 3-5 pairs, base cuneate, margin coarsely crenate serrate, teeth mucronulate, apex acuminate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, 1-flowered; peduncles longer than petioles, 3-4 cm. Pedicels bracteate above middle; bracts caducous, broadly ovate or orbicular, 4-5 mm, apex cuspidate, denticulate. Flowers yellow, red spotted, 3-3.5 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, obliquely ovate or ovate-oblong, margin denticulate, or entire, apex acuminate, abaxial midvein thickened, winged. Lower sepal funnelform, ca. 2 cm deep, narrowed into a slender spur shorter than limb; mouth oblique, ca. 1.2 cm wide, tip acute. Upper petal suboblate, ca. 1.7 cm, apex obtuse, rostellate, abaxial midvein thickened, carinate; lateral united petals broadly clawed, ca. 2.2 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes orbicular; distal lobes reflexed, orbicular or broadly dolabriform, large, apex rounded; auricle inflexed, elongate. Filaments short, broad; anthers ovoid, apex acute. Ovary erect, fusiform. Capsule (immature) linear. Fl. Jul-Sep.
