Characteristics

Plants annual, 30-100 cm tall, or higher. Stem erect, branched. Leaves alternate; petioles longer in lower leaves, gradually shorter to subsessile in upper leaves; leaf blade pale green abaxially, green adaxially, ovate or lanceolate-ovate, 7-12 × 4-6 cm, with few pairs of denticulate basal glands, abaxially sparsely pilose on veins, base slightly cordate or obtuse-rounded, margin coarsely crenate, apex caudate acuminate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, 1-4-flowered. Pedicels 2-3 cm, slender, bracteate above middle; bracts narrowly ovate, ca. 3 mm. Flowers pale purple, large, 2-3 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, broadly ovate or suborbicular, 5-6 mm, thinly membranous, margin irregularly lacerate, apex acute. Lower sepal purple-brown spotted, saccate, ca. 1 × 2 cm, narrowed into an incurved spur; spur short, 2-lobed. Upper petal broadly reniform, ca. 1.2 cm, apex mucronulate, abaxial midvein cristate; lateral united petals ca. 2 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes oblong, small, apex with a filamentous long hair; distal lobes dolabriform, large, apex acute. Anthers obtuse. Capsule linear, ca. 8 mm. Fl. Jul-Aug.
