Characteristics

Plants annual, 50-90 cm tall, glabrous or subglabrous, base and lower part with few supporting roots. Stem erect, striate, robust. Leaves alternate, crowded at upper part, subverticillate, upper leaves subsessile, lower leaves shortly petiolate; petiole shortly winged; leaf blade greenish abaxially, dark green adaxially, ovate or oblong, 9-15(-24) × 4-7 cm, membranous, setose between teeth, lateral veins 7-10(-13) pairs, obliquely curved, adaxially papillose-scabrid, base with scutiform or digitate glands, narrowly cuneate, gradually attenuate into petiole, margin densely crenate, apex long acuminate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, racemose, densely 8-12-flowered; peduncles shorter than or ca. as long as leaves, (6-)8-15 cm. Pedicels 1-2 cm, bracteate at base; bracts caducous, ovate, very small, apex acuminate. Flowers pale pink, yellow at throat, ca. 3 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, ovate, broadly ovate, or orbicular, 7-8 mm, 5-veined, base oblique or subrounded, apex mucronulate. Lower sepal broadly funnelform, limb ca. 2 cm deep, abruptly constricted into an erect spur ca. 5 mm; mouth oblique, ca. 1.5 cm wide, tip rostellate. Upper petal 8-9 mm in diam., abaxial midvein thickened, narrowly carinate; lateral united petals not clawed, 2-2.2 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes orbicular, base cuneate; distal lobes dolabriform, ca. as long as basal lobes, apex obtuse. Filaments linear, short; anthers obtuse. Capsule fusiform, 2.5-3 cm. Seeds few, globose, ca. 3 mm. Fl. Aug-Sep, fr. Oct.
