Characteristics

Plants annual, small, ca. 20 cm tall, subglabrous except for peduncles. Stem erect, simple or branched from base, naked. Leaves alternate; petiole 2-4 cm, slender; leaf blade ovate or ovate-lanceolate, 3-5 mm, membranous, lateral veins 3-6 pairs, base cuneate, margin crenate-serrate, apex acute. Inflorescences 1-3-flowered; peduncles erect, 1-4 cm at fruiting, fibrous, pilose. Bracts very small, narrow. Flowers pink, ca. 2.5 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, broadly oblong, suborbicular, or cucullate, apex acute or mucronulate. Lower sepal funnelform, ca. 2.5 cm deep, narrowed into an incurved spur; spur ca. 2.5 cm, slender; mouth vertical, obtuse. Upper petal orbicular, ca. 1 cm in diam., apex rostellate, abaxial midvein carinate; lateral united petals not clawed, ca. 2.5 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes suborbicular or tetragonous; distal lobes broadly dolabriform; auricle broad. Filaments short, broad; anthers broadly ovoid, small. Ovary erect. Capsule (immature) erect, apex acute. Fl. and fr. Aug-Oct.
