Characteristics

Plants annual, glabrous. Stem robust, succulent; branches and branchlets ascending, gradually slender. Leaves alternate, petiolate, or subsessile in upper leaves; petiole 1-7 cm; leaf blade green, ovate or orbicular, large, 5-15 × 3-4 cm, thinly membranous, lateral veins 8-10 pairs, base rounded or cuneate, attenuate into petiole, margin coarsely crenate or crenate-serrate, apex acute or acuminate, sometimes caudate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, 1-or 2-flowered; peduncles 2-3 cm. Pedicels short, bracteate at middle or above; bracts ovate-lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, 3-5 mm. Flowers large, ca. 4 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, green, orbicular, 1-1.5 cm in diam., apex acuminate, abaxial midvein fine, turgid. Lower sepals saccate or saccate-funnelform, ca. 4 cm, gradually narrowed into a truncate or 2-lobed spur; spur short, 5-10 mm; mouth ascending, ca. 2 cm wide, tip acuminate. Upper petal orbicular or reniform, 1.4-1.6 cm wide, abaxial midvein narrowly cristate, apex acutely hooked; lateral united petals not clawed, 2.5-2.8 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes oblate, apex with a filamentous long hair; distal lobes broadly dolabriform, apex acuminate, with a long filamentous hair; auricle inflexed. Filaments short, broad; anthers obtuse. Ovary erect, linear. Capsule (immature) linear. Fl. Jul.
