Characteristics

Plants annual, 30-60 cm tall. Stem slender, simple or few branched. Leaves alternate, usually crowded at upper part of stem, upper leaves subsessile, lower leaves with petiole 1.5-3 cm; leaf blade ovate-lanceolate or elliptic-lanceolate, 5-13 × 2.5-5 cm, setose between teeth, lateral veins 5-11 pairs, base cuneate, margin crenate or coarsely crenate, apex acute or acuminate. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, racemose, 5-8-flowered. Pedicels slender or stout, bracteate at base; bracts persistent, lanceolate. Flowers yellow or purple, ca. 3 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, narrowly oblong, ca. 5 mm, membranous, slightly thickening on 1 side, 3-5-veined, apex cuspidate. Lower sepal narrowly funnelform, narrowed into an incurved or recurved, long spur, tip shortly rostellate. Upper petal suborbicular or orbicular, abaxial midvein thickened, narrowly winged; lateral united petals not clawed, 2-lobed; basal lobes subtriangular; distal lobes lorate. Anthers obtuse. Capsule clavate. Fl. Jul-Sep, fr. Oct-Nov.
