Characteristics

Plants annual, 20-45 cm tall, glabrous. Stem erect, striate when dry, succulent, simple, lower nodes swollen, with many fibrous roots. Leaves crowded at upper part of stem; petiole 1.5-2 cm; leaf blade obovate, oblanceolate, spatulate, or oblong, 6-16 × 2-6 cm, membranous, setose between teeth, lateral veins 5-9 pairs, base cuneate, margin coarsely crenate, apex acute. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, racemose, 2-4-flowered; peduncles 6-16 cm, strict. Pedicels 1.8-3 cm, slender, bracteate at base. Flowers yellow, 2.5-3.5 cm deep. Lateral sepals 4; outer 2: obliquely ovate, 6-9 × 3.5-4.5 mm, conspicuously veined, base inequilateral, apex acute; inner 2: lanceolate, 1-1.3 cm × 2.5-3 mm, apex recurved. Lower sepal saccate, 3-3.5 cm deep, gradually narrowed into an involute, short spur; mouth oblique, 1.5-2 cm, tip mucronulate. Upper petal elliptic, 1-1.2 cm × 6-8 mm, abaxial midvein thickened, narrowly carinate; lateral united petals not clawed, 1.5-2 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes obovate; distal lobes subdolabriform, apex emarginate; auricle inflexed, large. Filaments linear; anthers obtuse. Ovary fusiform, 3.5-4.5 mm. Capsule unknown. Fl. Oct.
