Characteristics

Plants annual, 30-40 cm tall, glabrous. Stem erect, simple or axillary, hidden buds inconspicuous in upper part. Leaves alternate, remote; petiole 1-1.5 cm, or upper leaves sessile; leaf blade linear-elliptic, 13-18 × 1-1.5 cm, glabrous, lateral veins 7 or 8 pairs, base gradually narrowed, margin shallowly crenate, apex acute. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils, 8-12-flowered; peduncles erect or obliquely ascending, shorter than leaves, 5-8 cm, glabrous. Pedicels 1.5-2 cm, slender, bracteate at base; bracts caducous, navicular, ovate, 0.6-1 cm, apex acute. Flowers yellow, ca. 2.5 cm, ca. 3.5 cm deep. Lateral sepals 4; outer 2: falcate-elliptic, ca. 6 mm, apex acute; inner 2: linear-subulate, ca. 3 mm, membranous. Lower sepal yellow, limb navicular, ca. 1.4 cm, ca. 3.2 cm deep, narrowed into a curved spur. Upper petal cucullate, bent, broadly elliptic, ca. 1.2 × 0.8 cm, abaxial midvein not cristate; lateral united petals yellow, with reddish spots, 2-lobed; basal lobes broadly lanceolate or narrowly ovate, ca. 1.2 × 0.6 mm, apex rounded; distal lobes lanceolate, ca. 1.4 × 0.5 cm, apex rounded; auricle absent. Filaments linear; anthers obtuse. Capsule not seen. Fl. Oct. 2n = 18*.
