Characteristics

Plants annual, small, 6-20 cm. Stem simple or branched from base; lower part often naked, upper part puberulent. Leaves alternate, or crowded at apices of stem and branches and subverticillate, shortly petiolate in lower part of stem, subsessile in upper part; petiole ca. 1.5 cm; leaf blade gray-green abaxially, green adaxially, lanceolate, elliptic-lanceolate, or oblong-spatulate, 4.5-7 × 1.5-2 cm, membranous (membranaceous), abaxially glabrous or veins puberulent, adaxially slightly scabrid on veins, midvein conspicuously raised abaxially, lateral veins 7-9 pairs, base broadly cuneate, gradually attenuate into petiole in lower leaves, margin crenate-denticulate, teeth mucronulate, setose between teeth, apex acute or acuminate. Inflorescences 1-or 2-flowered; peduncles ca. 1/2 as long as or overtopping leaves, 2-2.5 cm, slender, puberulent. Pedicels 1-2 cm, elongate in fruit, bracteate at middle or below; bracts persistent, ovate-lanceolate, small, abaxially setose, apex acute. Flowers golden-yellow, mouth purple-brown spotted, 2-2.5 cm deep. Lateral sepals 2, triangular-ovate, ca. 9 mm, apex acute. Lower sepal narrowly funnelform, limb navicular, ca. 2 cm deep, gradually narrowed into an involute spur 2.2-2.5 cm; mouth vertical, 6-8 mm wide, tip cuspidate. Upper petal cucullate, suborbicular, 6-7 mm, abaxially puberulent, base purple-tinged; lateral united petals ± clawed, 1.1-1.2 or 1.5-1.6 cm, 2-lobed; basal lobes orbicular, small; distal lobes dolabriform or ovate-dolabriform, apex obtuse; auricle absent. Filaments broadly winged, ca. 3 mm; anthers obtuse. Ovary erect, elliptic, ca. 3 mm. Capsule elliptic, turgid, 1-1.5 cm, narrowed at both ends. Seeds numerous. Fl. Aug-Sep, fr. Oct.
