Characteristics

Prostrate to erect bushy perennial herb or suffrutex 0.1-0.6 m tall. Stems trailing to c. 1 m long, ribbed at first becoming terete below, strigose or pubescent with hairs mostly spreading at tips or crisped, densely covered with short 0.1-0.6 mm erect, gland-tipped, yellowish or red multicellular hairs, plant viscid. Stipides 1-3.5 mm long, linear-lanceolate or subulate, spreading to reflexed. Leaves pinnately (5)7-13-foliolate; leaf axis (6)10-30(36) mm long including petiole of (2.5)4-14 mm, usually prolonged 1-4(6) mm beyond lateral leaflets; stipels absent; terminal leaflet 2-10(13) x 1.2-7(9) mm, broadly obovate, suborbicular or elliptic, mostly less than twice as long as wide, finely and sparsely strigose-pubescent with + equally and unequally biramous hairs spreading at tips above, sparsely and coarsely appressed strigose beneath (mixed small and larger hairs); margins and sometimes leaflet surfaces with scattered short gland-tipped hairs to 0.2 mm; young leaflets often tinged red on margins. Raceme 1-5(9) cm long, ± equal to over 3 times subtending leaf length, including peduncle of 3-11(15) mm, 6-20(25)-flowered; bracts 0.2-1 mm long, linear-lanceolate or subulate, falling early; pedicels 0.5-1 mm long. Calyx 1-1.7 mm long, densely strigose; lobes lanceolate to subulate, equal to twice tube length. Corolla 3-4.5 mm long, pink to carmine-red, glabrescent or back of standard whitish pubescent and keel pilose distally, keel apex obtuse. Stamens 2-3.2 mm long, exceeding calyx. Style 0.8-1.6 mm long, abruptly bent to erect before middle. Pod 6-12 x 1.5-2 mm, straight, cylindrical, spreading, sparsely whitish strigose with hairs spreading at tips, reddish to dark brown, sparsely to densely covered with erect, gland-tipped hairs 0.1-0.2 mm long; style-base persistent, forming a short beak; endocarp spotted with tannin deposits. Seeds 3-6, 1-1.5 x 1-1.2 mm, quadrangular-cylindrical to globose, khaki, orange or brown, pitted.
