Characteristics

A semi-woody perennial bushy herb up to 35 cm. tall from a woody rootstock, covered all over with fine silky subsimple hairs up to 3 mm. long, which more or less hide the shorter, stiffer, medifixed hairs also present on the leaflets.. Stipules asymmetrically ovate-lanceolate, up to 12 mm. long and 3.5 mm. wide; petiole 2–5 mm. long; rhachis prolonged 1–2 mm. beyond the lateral leaflets; leaflets always 3, oblanceolate, ± acuminate, up to 14 mm. long and 5 mm. wide.. Racemes condensed, 2–3-flowered, sessile in the axils of normal leaves, more or less concealed between their stipules.. Calyx divided to the base, ± 6 mm. long, longer than the corolla and stamens.. Standard pubescent outside.. Style 3.5 mm.; ovary 1 mm. long.. Fruit erect, cylindrical, 4–5 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide, pubescent, 1–2-seeded.
