Erect to decumbent, somewhat rigid, spiny subshrub 0.3-1.2 m tall. Stems many-branched, terete, densely white villous-strigose, hairs either appressed, ± equally biramous or spreading with hairs very unequally biramous, indumentum obscuring stem surface when young; older stems woody, brown or grey, glabrescent, longitudinally fissured. Stipules 1-2(3) mm long, subulate-setaceous, erect. leaves pinnately 3-foliolate, sessile or with petiole to 1 mm; leaf axis 1-2 mm long; terminal leaflet 4.5-8 x 1.5-3.5 mm, obovate to oblanceolate, folded, apex rounded to obtuse; lamina strigose with appressed, ± equally biramous hairs on both surfaces, hairs more sparse above. Raceme 5-18 mm long, c. 2-flowered, rachis spinescent, glabrescent, yellow-orange, including peduncle of 3-10 mm; bracts 0.5-1 mm long, falling early; pedicels 1.5-3 mm long. Calyx 1.5-2 mm long, densely strigose to sericeous; tube 0.5-1 mm long, lobes 1-1.5 mm long, subulate, up to twice as long as tube. Corolla 4.5-5.5 mm long, carmine-red, back of standard whitish strigose to pubescent; keel whitish pilose along distal margin, apex obtuse. Stamens 4-5 mm long, exceeding calyx. Style c. 2 mm long, bending erect directly from pod apex. Pod (8)12-22 x 2.5-5 mm, curved spirally in a circle, flat, reflexed, densely appressed strigose, orange-brown with raised network of veins; style-base persistent forming a beak; endocarp without tannin deposits. Seeds (3)4-6, orange, flattened.
