Characteristics

Erect branching herb up to 1 m. tall from a taproot; stems strigulose or pubescent.. Leaves 3–7-foliolate; stipules narrow, attenuate, up to 8 mm. long; rhachis prolonged 2–5 mm. beyond the lateral leaflets, up to 3 cm. long, including a petiole of 8–12 mm.; leaflets narrowly elliptic or narrowly obovate, 8–18 mm. long, 3–7 mm. wide.. Panicles numerous, dense, congested, subsessile in the leaf-axils, on short lateral branches, or terminal; bracts usually 3-foliolate, ending in long rather stiff points, like the calyx covered with up to 1 mm. long brown or white hairs; pedicels puberulent, up to 2 mm. long, erect during and after flowering.. Calyx ± 4 mm. long, divided to the base; lobes lanceolate-attenuate.. Corolla orange or red, about as long as calyx, pubescent outside.. Stamens all fertile, ± 3.5 mm. long.. Pod oval, rather shorter than the sparsely pilose subpersistent style, ± 2.5 mm. long and 1.5 mm. wide, puberulent 1 (rarely 2)-seeded; endocarp not spotted.
