Characteristics

Scrambling suffrutex, 0.1-2.0 m high; stems woody-based, distichously branched, strongly angular, appressed subcanescent-strigillose. Stipules 0.5-3.0 mm long, ± subulate, decurrent. Leaves pinnately 3-7-foliolate; petioles 1-10 mm long. Terminal leaflet on rachis extending to 1-5 mm beyond distal leaflet pair, 4-20(30) x 1-8 mm, ± oblong-elliptic to linear, apex ± rounded, both surfaces strigose. Inflorescences of (15)20-160 mm long, (15)20-50-flowered racemes; peduncle 5-16 mm long; pedicels 0.5-1.0 mm long. Flowers 5.5-7.0 mm long, red; calyx 2.0-2.5(3.5) mm long, sub-canescent-strigose; lobes lanceolate-subulate, less than (rarely up to) twice tube length; standard dorsally strigose; keel apex obtuse. Stamens (4.5)5.0-6.0 mm long. Ovary densely strigose. Flowering time Sept.-May. Pod 12-30 x 2.0-2.8 mm.

Decumbent or sprawling shrub to 80 cm or higher when clambering through other vegetation, stems greyish. Leaves pinnately 5-7-foliolate, petiole 4-8 mm long, leaflets elliptic-oblong to linear, thinly hairy. Flowers in racemes on peduncles ± as long as leaves, brick-red, calyx 2-3 mm long, lobes lanceolate, ± equalling to twice length of tube, back of standard petal grey-hairy. Pods pale, thinly hairy, apex sharply acute.
