Characteristics

Many-branched, softly-wooded shrub 1-2 m tall. Stems spreading, often slightly zigzag, ± densely pubescent, pilose or tomentulose with brownish hairs, becoming glabrous, reddish-brown, longitudinally fissured below. Stipules 7-18 mm long, filiform, ± erect. Leaves pinnately (7) 11-21-foliolate; leaf axis 7-14 cm long, including petiole of 10-18 mm, extended 5-10 mm beyond lateral leaflets; stipels 1-4 mm long, filiform; terminal leaflet 8-25 x 4-13 mm, broadly obovate or elliptic, apex acute, obtuse or rounded, laterals somewhat narrower oblong-elliptic to ovate; leaflets sparsely to densely silky-pubescent or strigose on both surfaces (sometimes with small and larger hairs mixed together), most hairs unequally biramous to subsimple diverging at 10-45° from midrib; chartaceous; margins not retuse. Raceme 3-11 cm long, including peduncle of 14-25 mm, densely 10-40-flowered; bracts 5-8 mm long, lanceolate to linear, attenuate; pedicels 1-2.5 mm long. Calyx 2-3 mm long, densely strigose and silky-pubescent (hairs of two sizes); lobes broadly triangular, shorter than or equal to tube. Corolla 13-17 mm long, minutely puberulent with ± whitish hairs, pointed at apex in bud, drying purplish. Stamens 12.5-15 mm long. Style 3-4 mm long, curving erect from a thickened style base, becoming an upturned beak in pod. Pod 36-52 x 3-4 mm, cylindrical, glabrous, strongly beaked, reflexed. Seeds 6-14, 2.5-3.5 x 2-2.5 mm, squarish to oblong, reddish-brown, pitted.
