Characteristics

An erect herb.. Resembles I. trachyphylla, but the leaves are less than 3 times as long as wide (up to 2 cm. wide in stout examples) and more abruptly narrowed, truncate, or even subcordate at the base.. The infructescence is up to 8 cm. long, about as long as the peduncle.. The calyx-lobes and stamens are up to 6 mm. long.. The biramous hairs on the pods are almost wholly black.
