Characteristics

Bushy shrublets, up to 800 mm high; stems woody, rigid, the many long-branches erect, ± closely parallel, densely appressed strigillose. Stipules 1-2 mm long, subulate, erect. Leaves (3-)5-foliolate, spreading to erect. Terminal leaflet 12-32 x 1.5-4.5 mm, smaller on terminal twigs, linear, glossy foveolate-subrugulate above, densely canescent strigillose below, margins slightly revolute, not rolled back ± to midrib, apex rounded to subacute. Inflorescences of 10-30 mm long, 8-20-flowered racemes; peduncle 1-6 mm long; pedicels 2-7 mm long; plants mass-flowering. Flowers 7-8 mm long, pink to mauve, petals semi-persistent; calyx 2.5-3.0 mm long, strigillose-puberulent; lobes triangular, ± equalling tube; standard strigillose to subsericeous dorsally, keel apex acute to rostrate. Stamens 4.0-4.5 mm long. Ovary glabrous. Flowering time Mar., Apr. Pod 14-22 x 2 mm.

A virgate shrub 0-3 m high. Branches ribbed, finely strigose. Leaves on short petioles 1-1-5 mm long, trifoliolate; leaflets linear-oblong, sub-spathulate, narrowed to the base, obtuse or subacute, with revolute margins and a salient midrib, strigillose on the upper surface and canescent-strigillose on the lower, up to 2-5 cm long and 4 mm broad, smaller on terminal twigs. Stipules toothlike or obsolete. Racemes axillary, subsessile, shorter than the leaf, densely 10-15 flowered. Lower pedicels 4-6 mm long, strigillose. Flowers 7-8 mm long, rose-purple. Calyx subacutely based, canescent-strigillose, with a tube about 1-5 mm long and deltoid lobes of the same length. Petals silky-canescent on their outer surfaces. Legumes (immature) straight, terete, glabrous.
Like I. sulcata but stems more densely hairy, leaflets broader, nonsulcate and densely grey-hairy beneath.
