Characteristics

Strigose spreading annual up to 50 cm. tall with ridged stems.. Leaves 3–5(–7)-foliolate; stipules subulate-filiform, ± 5 mm. long; petiole 8–20 mm. long, about as long as the rhachis which extends up to 7 mm. beyond the lateral leaflets; leaflets oblong-lanceolate, 2–3 times as long as wide, rounded, truncate or emarginate at the apex, up to 3 cm. long in luxuriant plants, strigose beneath, sparsely strigose or, less often, glabrous above.. Racemes shortly pedunculate, many-flowered, shorter than or about as long as the subtending leaf.. Corolla shorter than, or but little longer than, the deeply divided 2–3 mm. long calyx, caducous.. Stamens ± 3 mm. long.. Pod curved, appearing jointed because of the transverse ridges formed by the septa, obtuse except for the persistent subulate style-base..
