Characteristics

Probably perennial. Stems erect, 40 cm or more high, 1-1.5 mm thick, terete, nearly glabrous or thinly sprinkled with minute centrally fixed adpressed hairs, pale brown. Leaves 15-30 mm long, ascending; leaflets 5-7, the lateral opposite in 2-3 pairs, 6-18 mm long, 1-2 mm broad, linear, glabrous above, thinly and inconspicuously adpressed-pubescent beneath. Racemes 7-14 cm long and 2-7 times as long as the leaves, slender, with the peduncle below the lowest scar of fallen flowers much longer than the leaves. Flowers lax. Pedicels 3-5 mm long, straight in young fruit. Calyx-lobes scarcely 1 mm long. Corolla 6 mm long, red; standard adpressed-pubescent with brown hairs on the back. Pods linear-terete, seen only in a young state.
