Characteristics

Rounded, bushy, small shrub or suffrutex 0.2-0.8 m tall. Stems many, erect or ascending, woody below with grey-brown fissured bark, or herbaceous, densely sericeous, velutinous or tomentose with spreading whitish or orange hairs; ± densely scattered with pearl bodies. Stipules 3-7 mm long, linear-lanceolate. Leaves pinnately (9)11-19-foliolate; leaf axis (15)25-65 mm, with dense clusters of dark pearl bodies at base of petiole and between leaflets; petiole of 1-  long, stipels absent; terminal leaflet (5)7-17 x (4)5-10 mm, broadly to narrowly elliptic, ± densely appressed to spreading sericeous or velutinous on both surfaces. Raceme 5-13 cm long, including peduncle of 9-33 mm; bracts 3-7 mm long, lanceolate; pedicels 1-2 mm long. Calyx 4-7(8) mm long, densely whitish to orange sericeous, tomentose or velutinous; lobes lanceolate-attenuate, 2-5 times as long as tube. Corolla dark pinkish-red, back of standard densely whitish to orange pubescent or tomentose; keel apex obtuse, with narrow band of spreading whitish hairs along distal midline. Stamens (10)11-14 mm long; anthers with scattered hairs. Pod 14-17 x 2-3 mm, ± spreading, oblong, subcylindrical, ± densely velutinous with whitish to orange hairs; endocarp densely spotted with tannin vescicles. Seeds 4-5, c. 1.6 x 1.4 mm, cuboid, dark greenish-brown, deeply pitted.
