Characteristics

Woody, rigid shrub, 0.5-2.0 m high, branches exfoliating in longitudinal strips, tips spinescent. Stipules scale-like up to 1 mm long. Leaves digitately 3-foliolate; petioles (1)2-8 mm long. Terminal leaflet 2.5-8.0 x 1-4 mm, obovate to elliptic, concave, keeled or complicate, thick-textured, margin raised, sparsely to coarsely strigose above, more densely and finely strigose below, apex obtuse to acute. Inflorescences of subsessile, 2-7 mm long racemes, ± equalling the leaves, (1)2-5(6)-flowered; pedicels 1-3 mm long. Flowers pink to mauve; calyx 1-2(3) mm long, ± tomentose, lobes triangular, ± shorter than tube; standard densely white pubescent, hairs spreading. Stamens 5-6 mm long. Ovary glabrous. Flowering time Mar.-Jan. Pod 17-24 x 2-4 mm, dark brown, glabrous.
