Characteristics

Rigid, woody, divaricately branching shrub, up to 0.5(1.0) m high, branches sometimes spine-tipped, indumentum ± densely appressed canescent to strigose. Leaves unifoliolate or digitately 3-foliolate, subsessile, scattered. Terminal leaflet 3-16 x 1-5 mm, obcordate, obovate to linear-oblanceolate, often thick-textured, conduplicate, apex retuse to emarginate or recurved-mucronate, appressed strigose on both surfaces. Inflorescences of 0.2-20 mm long, 2-10-flowered racemes, pedicels 1.0-2.0(2.5) mm long. Flowers 5-7 mm long, red; calyx 1.5-2.0(2.5) mm long, densely strigose, lobes triangular to lanceolate, ± equalling tube; standard strigose dorsally; keel apex obtuse to rostrate. Stamens (3.5)4.0-5.5 mm long. Ovary strigose. Flowering time May-Sept., also Nov., Jan. and Mar. Pod 9-15 x 1.5-2.0 mm, ± laterally compressed.
