Characteristics

Perennial with an underground woody rootstock and erect subglabrous annual shoots up to 30 cm. long.. Leaves 1-foliolate; stipules narrowly triangular, strigose, up to 7 mm. long; petiole almost glabrous, up to 12 cm. long; stipellae glabrous, 2–3 mm. long; petiolule blackish, 4–5 mm. long; leaflet peltate, ovate, up to 14 cm. long and 10 cm. wide, glabrous above, sparsely appressed strigose beneath with biramous hairs; midrib, principal nerves and reticulate venation strongly and clearly developed; insertion of petiolule about twice as close to the base as to the apex.. Racemes precocious, 2–3 on each shoot, in the axils of reduced scale-like leaves below the foliage leaves or, occasionally, the uppermost in the axil of the lowest foliage leaf, many-flowered, after flowering up to 12 cm. long, including a peduncle of up to 2 cm.. Flowers closely resembling those of 106, I. rhynchocarpa and 104, I. garckeana.. Ovary white strigulose, 11–12-ovulate.. Pod unknown.
