Characteristics

Softly woody shrub up to 2 m. tall; branches brownish strigulose, obscurely ± 6-angled.. Stipules setaceous, up to 8 mm. long; stipellae filiform, up to 4 mm. long; rhachis brownish strigulose, up to 8 cm. long, including a petiole of 2–3 cm., prolonged up to 15 mm. beyond the lateral leaflets; petiolules densely pubescent, up to 3 mm. long; leaflets 5–7 or –11, oblong-elliptic, apiculate, up to 5 cm. long and 3.5 cm. wide but usually half that size, with a well-marked reticulate venation, strigulose on both surfaces.. Racemes many-flowered, blackish strigulose, up to 16 cm. long, including a peduncle of ± 3 cm.; bracts linear-lanceolate, up to 6 mm. long, caducous; pedicels 2 mm. long in flower, reflexed and up to 5 mm. in fruit.. Calyx densely brown strigulose; teeth subulate, up to 2 mm. long, the upper pair very widely separated, so that all 5 teeth appear bunched together at the abaxial side.. Corolla densely brown strigulose outside; standard pointed; keel rather rostrate.. Stamens 10–12 mm. long.. Pod cylindrical, ± 5 cm. long, including the glabrous 4–5 mm. long stipe and a 3–4 mm. long point, ± 2.8 mm. wide, blackish strigulose; endocarp spotted.. Seeds ± 8, well separated.
