Characteristics

Prostrate or trailing perennial herb, 0.1–0.3 m high, with thickened or swollen taproot; young stems ridged, green, strigose with moderately dense, appressed, equally biramous hairs. Leaves trifoliolate; stipules narrowly triangular or linear, (1–) 2–4 mm long, sparsely pubescent; petiole 3–13 mm long; rachis furrowed; stipellae usually inconspicuous, 0.3–1 mm long; multicellular hairs between leaflet pairs absent; leaflets elliptical to obovate, 5–15 (–24) mm long, 3–10 (–14) mm wide, upper surface green, with sparse to moderately dense hairs, lower surface paler than above, apex obtuse and apiculate. Inflorescences (15–) 40–120 (–360) mm long, longer than leaves; peduncle 5–20 (–39) mm long; bracts triangular, 0.5–2 mm long; pedicel 0.5–1 mm long; flowers pink to purple. Calyx (2–) 2.5–4 mm long; lobes subequal to equal, longer than the length of the tube and covered with moderately dense, white, appressed hairs. Standard obovate, 4–5 mm long, 3.2–4.7 mm wide. Wings narrowly obovate to spathulate, 4–5.5 mm long, 1.3–2 mm wide. Keel 4.5–5 mm long, 1.2–2 mm deep; apex rounded; lateral pockets 0.5–1.2 mm long. Staminal tube 3–4 mm long, colourless. Ovary glabrous to sparsely hairy. Pods ascending to descending, terete with lateral ridges, (10–) 20–30 mm long, 1.5 mm wide, brown, strigose to glabrescent; apex acute, sometimes kinked upwards; endocarp not spotted; seeds 7–10 per fruit.
