Prostrate to erect, sometimes robust annual herb 0.3-1 m tall. Stems yellowish-green, many-branched, angular, ribbed, arising from a taproot; densely to sparsely whitish strigose with appressed ± equally biramous hairs. Stipules (2)3-7 mm long, lanceolate-subulate, attenuate, ± erect. Leaves pinnately 3-7-foliolate; leaf axis (0.5)1-4 cm long including petiole of (3)5-20 mm, rachis usually prolonged 1-8 mm beyond lateral leaflets; stipels 0.5-1.5 mm long, falling early; terminal leaflet (0.7) 1-4.8 x 0.3-1.5 cm, lanceolate to elliptic-oblong, apex obtuse, rounded to truncate, laterals usually smaller; lamina glabrous above, sparsely to densely strigose with appressed, ± equally biramous hairs beneath. Raceme (1.5)2-8(12) cm long, including peduncle of (3)6-24 mm; bracts 1-1.5 mm long, falling early; pedicels 0.5-1 mm long. Calyx (1) 1.5-2.5(3) mm long, strigose; tube 0.3-0.7 mm long, lobes subulate-setaceous, much longer than tube. Corolla 3.5-4.5 mm long, orange-carmine to red, back of standard whitish strigose; keel whitish strigose along distal margin, apex obtuse. Stamens (3)3.5-4 mm long, up to twice calyx length. Style (2)2.5-3 mm long, bending to ± erect in middle or distal third. Pod 6-14 x 2.5-5.5 mm, reflexed, straight, flat with interrupted midridge of swellings over each seed, ± sparsely spreading pilose to subsericeous; style-base persistent forming an ascending to erect beak from pod apex; endocarp without tannin deposits. Seeds 2-4(6), orange, flattened squarish, 1.8-2.2 x 1.4-1.6 mm.
